SMART

Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target

The SMART program is a new program created to support solar energy implementation in Massachusetts.

The regulatory framework for the Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) Program is set by DOER's regulation 225 CMR 20.00. DOER is Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources.

SMART will support 1,600 MW of solar generating capacity, which will greatly encourage the development of solar photovoltaic (PV) installations in Massachusetts.

This tariff-based solar energy incentive is paid directly to the system owner by the utility company.

On November 26, 2018 the program will start accepting applications. The application will be reviewed by the Solar Program Administrator, and incentives will only be paid if approval is granted. Applications can be submitted to the SMART program website.
